BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII.

'BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.'

Yeah, alert was a mistake and someone pressed the wrong button according the government.

But that didn't stop people from having heart attacks and dying, running from their homes half naked screaming, and stopping their cars in the middle of the freeway and running away. Mass chaos. Death and injury count from the false alarm isn't finalized, but the damage looks to be significant.

Hawaii emergency management "tweeted" that it was a false alarm, and that was their only notification it was a false alarm.

Those not subscribed to their twitter feed didn't get the message.

Said Hawaii emergency management, who sent the initial false alarm on multiple channels including cell phone alerts, "Mebbe now da peeple dey subscribe to er twitter like dey supposed to, yah."

Pretty darned fragile civil defense, if you ask me:

Over-reliance on fragile easily damaged cell phone networks.

Over-reliance on internet access.

Many cord cutters in the population, hence a low reach for broadcast civil defense warnings.

Now would be the perfect time for NK to actually attack Hawaii.

While in NK

The missiles are getting better

The bombs are getting lighter

They do not currently have the capability of delivering a nuke via a missile.

They'll figure it out once they finish downloading Kerbal Space Program off of Steam.

My dad was a fireman, one of his responsibilities in the event of a nuclear attack was to go to a local hill and wind a hand driven klaxon. Clearly he was never going to do this in the event of a real attack.

"I notice during the last accidental nuclear holocaust alarm you didn't crank the hand-driven klaxon"

"Sorry boss, won't happen again"

"I notice during the last accidental nuclear holocaust alarm you didn't crank the hand-driven klaxon"

"Hm, how can you be so sure I didn't?"

"Because you are here and not an incinerated patch on the side of the hill."

"Right you are. Silly me. Sorry boss, won't happen again."

>I like to believe he would have

My opinion is that he would have.

Would someone do that today?

  Probably not so much.

Times were different then.

Better?

  Not sure.

No, he told me at the time that there wasn't a chance in hell he would be doing that.
