Strange backlash against Amy Schumer

‘I Am Pretty’ is a film with Amy suffering a head injury and realising she is pretty (presumably after years of thinking she wasn’t). So a film along the lines of Shallow Hal maybe?

Criticism seems to be based on:

  Amy is pretty
  Amy isn’t fat

I’m not a fan of Amy, most of her humour in the past has centered on her cunt smelling like a barnyard animal.

But I’m not following the logic of the backlash.

I'm sure the foreveralones and divorcees here will get to the bottom of this real quick and have a definitive answer for you.

Clearly MS is unable to provide an explanation.

I had not heard of this film, which apparently was announced a few days ago.

On the Ellen show, Schumer explains the person is unattractive, but hits their head, suffers a brain injury, and develops a sort of reverse Body Dysmorphic Disorder where rather than being attractive and thinking they are ugly they are unattractive and think they look like a supermodel.

As expected this leads the person to being extremely confident, getting raises at work, finding the man of their dreams, etc. The message is it's confidence not attractiveness that leads to life success.

Fair enough.

Reminds me of the story of Tommy Wiseau. He genuinely sincerely believes that he does not have an accent, he is from New Orleans, he is a great actor, and his film The Room was a legitimate contender for the Academy Awards. And that confidence did lead to success for him.

So why the backlash?

The film appears to be attempting a worthy aim.

I didn't find the specific backlash but based on what you describe it's fat acceptance SJWs who are angry that Amy is acknowledging that she's not really the most beautiful person in the world, by presenting that belief as a mental disorder brought on by a head injury. They find this offensive because fat is beautiful and Amy is genuinely a real supermodel.

Some of the backlash commenters are describing Amy as either thin or as much thinner than themselves.

They must be huge!

Thanks for the link. I can see they are serious, but to me that reads like The Onion and the possibility it is serious is rather disturbing.

> Amy — a white, blonde, and able-bodied woman — is already the portrait of "conventional" beauty standards, and is therefore someone who receives more privilege than those who do not fit that trope.

So apparently all the "backlash" is coming from this one person, a 900 lb "comedian".

> How about, instead of her 'hitting her head and damaging her brain' in order to become so deluded that she'd think she was ACTUALLY pretty, she read about capitalism and realised that women's low self-esteem is a patriarchal ploy and that she is worthy of self-love?

> I'm done, I'm out. Come back to me when you're ready to fight against the oppression of women instead of contributing to it. I DO NOT WANT TO LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE AMY SCHUMER IS CONSIDERED UGLY. Go fuck yourself.

Danish. Mobidly obese. Possibly diabetic. She refuses to perform at clubs that don't install gender neutral bathrooms.

She comes across as a internet bully who is trying to shame Schumer, all in order to advance her own career.

Arghhh, my eyes!

Some things are better not seen.

I notice most of the male responses are negative.
