Youtube sponsorship

They have added a "sponsor" button to some of their content creator's home pages.  Spend $4.99 a month and you get access to exclusive content.

This is obviously an attempt by them to pick up the money going to Patreon. But at the only option being $4.99, YT is being stupid.  They need to let viewers pick a dollar amount, and then choose which of their subscriptions get a portion.

So this is $5/month per youtube channel? So if you want special access to 5 youtube channels, it's $25/month?

I think you're right about it being a response to Patreon. Also, once they have this set up expect them to modify the use contract to ban outside sponsorship.

I didn't think about that part. I think it's likely.

If I were a big channel owner there, I'd start working on a plan B.

A lot of the big names are thinking of YouTube alternatives, after the "great demonitization".  Didn't that Failed Normal guy say he was giving up on YouTube?

I have say, 15 channels I have subscribed to.  And a budget of $20 a month.

If I can go as low as $1, then all of them get something.  But because they put the floor at $5, 11 will get nothing at all.
