SGI holds a special place in my heart. I recall going to a local computer fair when I was a preteen. The guy supervising the SGI booth did not see any objection to let me explore one of their workstations without restriction for almost an hour.

For someone who has only access to 8-bit home computers at that time, it was like experimenting with alien technology.

The "encounter" sparked my interest in 3D rendering and geometry. I bought a few books about the topic and started writing small BASIC programs trying to draw static wireframes on the very limited hardware I had.
