offtopic.com is already taken.. that was the most obvious choice.
I think registering anything else is not worth it. I think we have a good name now. It's easy to remember, type, and has some significance to the community.

More a branding excercise. All will lead to the one place. While the community is still united in its fervour, multiple domains held by multiple people will insure against rugs being pulled. Once bitten twice shy.

I don't see how that's the case. The forums will still live on a single machine. All it will do is guarantee a lot of fragmentation when each of those redirected domains suddenly becomes its own thing.

He's what I will offer for rug-pulling...
a) Ability to download the raw database from this site.
b) Open source the code.
As for multiple domains pointing here -- I don't really see the point. Everyone is going to settle on one anyway so it's probably not a big help.

Maybe we can mirror the place on a number of servers and just pass around the posts/moderation via RSS or something.
A lot of work maybe, but also a cool thing to play with. :)

MySQL replication would work.
Although I think that would aggrevate the problem of posts appearing in the middle of discussions (people replying while you are replying).

MySQL replication is the easy way out. :P

AHA - I don't know what all information is being stored in the database, but you probably want to make the dump a subset of that... (no email addresses, ip's, moderator info...)
And having it available on demand would probably hurt site performance...
Maybe a weekly or even monthly dump that would contain all threads started in that time period?
Agreed on all points.
