I've traveled and had to work nights a few times. I learned the hard way that the only way to not be bothered is to do all of the following:
1. Call the front desk and tell them you are working nights and do not want room service.
2. Post a hand-written note over the keyhole that says "I'm working nights. Please NO room service".
3. Post a second note saying the same in Spanish.
4. Take the phone off of the hook.
Leave any of these out and you'll get a call asking, "Are you sure you don't want room service".
