I'm thinking maybe BSD... fairly unincumbered.
Thoughts?
What Open Source License to use for COT?I'm thinking maybe BSD... fairly unincumbered.
Thoughts? BSD (or the almost identical MIT) would probably do. The GPL is a bit longwinded and contains some political posturing, and the others are mostly too obscure...
I like the BSD license myself and have chosen that in the past. Basically, it gives people the flexibility to do what they want with your code, including redistributing it with their apps, under almost any other license, free or commercial.
I feel really bad giving you such simplistic explanation, but that's may be all you'll need to know right now. O'Reilly has a great book about the topic, "Understanding Open Source and Free Software Licensing" by Andrew M. St. Laurent. It's available for free online at http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/osfreesoft/book/ Or was it the Apache license I liked? I don't really remember. The book says they're *almost* the same thing.
I think BDS would be a good choice.
D'Oh! BDS = BSD!
MPL
+1 to BSD.
+1 to BSD. So I can steal it and make money on it.
GPL 3 is a nightmare too...
