I preferred EctopiaThat's one.
Two, counting Simon. As a general forum, sure, there's nothing wrong with Ectopia that a little restyle couldn't cure, but I still maintain that as a replacement to ?off you couldn't ask for more than this, and if I were a woman I'd have AHA's babies. :)
Ectopia suffers from a SERIOUS aesthetic impairment. If Simon fixed zero bugs but fixed that one issue, it'd be 100% better.
But Simon thinks it looks great so there you have it. I STILL never found that link to here he said he had. It's gone now, but it was in flyspeck-2 in the "LINKS" section below the calendar; took me a while to spot owing to it being so small and miles away from the content, but it *was* there.
So it linked to here but the text was "Beware of the Leopard" ?
In a manner of speaking, yes, it may as well have been locked in a filing cabinet in a disused lavatory etc...
Yes it was hidden beyond the wit of man underneath the subtitle LINKS with title "Crazy On Tap".
Granted it was small & blue but he did put it up about 4 minutes after I suggested it. Then again I've had ectopia bookmarked & the feed watched since it went up (just in case) - so perhaps I'm just used to the look. I've got a widescreen monitor, and there's HUGE gulf of whitespace between the topic list and the navigation area, and with it being so busy over on the right hand side of the page (or in fact ALL OVER the page) my brain kind of filtered it out. It was compounded by the visited link colour being so wishy washy; as I'd already been here I didn't find that a miniscule bit of pale grey text on a white background surrounded by other miniscule bits of text four inches away from the thing I was looking at didn't really seem particularly obvious, but of course all this will only serve to further anger the great bear, so I'll shut up before I dig myself into a massive hole...
Replace one of those "didn't"s with "did"... It's been a long and trying couple of weeks.
"widescreen monitor" - lucky bugger. So I guess your view of the world is nothing like the one Simon put up;-)

Judge for yourself... http://www.dashslot.co.uk/images/ectopia.png Well if you will have the browser window that wide...
I will. If I resize it to 1280 or 1024 or somewhere around that area I end up with a useless strip down one side -- I can't fit much in it (although I did used to run Desktop Sidebar, but it kept crashing on me) and it's distracting.
I understand now why it looks crappier to you than it does even to anyone else. The alternative is to have a fixed width style and then you'll end up with useless white space inside the browser instead of outside it then.
I prefer it inside -- heck, even my own site wastes almost 50% of my screen, but it's less distracting. Either that, or make the gaps between posts clearer -- draw a line or something, anything, as this is, as I'm sure you'll agree, no so easy to follow:
http://dashslot.co.uk/images/posts.gif I guess I could use max-width if you're using something reasonable, but you don't have anything reasonable at work only IE (if I remember correctly).
I have a fudged "runs without installing" copy of FF at work, but it's not such a problem there anyway -- I run at 1900x1600, and tended to keep ?off tucked away in a small window in the corner where it didn't attract too much attention. :)
Ok, you have a fixed width for the main page and a reasonable max-width for the entry pages.
Please promise one thing - don't turn it luminous green on a black background ;-)
Especially in a 6pt font.
