Ectopia is so ugly...
That even the tide won't take it out.
January 25th, 2006 7:05pm
Ectopia's so ugly that when it was born the doctor looked at its face, looked at its ass, and said "conjoined twins!"
Er, hang on, Simon's much bigger than me, and already grumpy. I didn't mean it, honest! :)
January 25th, 2006 7:08pm
Watch it John. There is something wrong with Simon, and he can't detect playful fun.
Instead he'll end up offended and crying, then he'll throw a fit at you for your unpleasantness.
Because he is above animosity and competition. Which is of course ironic because you didn't mean it and he did. :-}
BUT, we still love you Simon. Don't take any of this to heart. You're welcome on COT anytime! AHA might even make you moderator!

Let's be fair, maybe the flu has become meningitis and his brain is swollen.
January 25th, 2006 7:12pm
Yeah, I wasn't even reading those other threads. Someone (who I won't name, but his initials are MUPPET) seems to have pissed on Simon's cornflakes. I didn't know that at the time I started this thread.
Oh feckin' well.
January 25th, 2006 7:14pm
How did I piss in his cornflakes, exactly? He started acting like a sod, and I told him so, not the other way 'round.
January 25th, 2006 7:17pm
I always get pissed when someone points out that Im acting like a sod :)
Seriously Simon has every right to feel a little disappointed.
Yes but not to act like a great, wet, tearful vagina.
January 25th, 2006 7:23pm
WTF. Simon is a way cool guy and you guys just ripped him to shreds over a free hang-out where we could re-group?
Why, CrazyOnTap might have fallen by the way-side if Simon's site hadn't been up.
Ungrateful bastards. I wuv ya, but you are still all BASTARDS!!!
January 25th, 2006 7:24pm
Nobody ripped into Simon over Ectopia. We made some suggestions to help it not suck, but nobody tore him a new one.
I tore him a new one when he started getting pissy about the existence (how dare they!!) of crazy on tap. He very clearly didn't like the competition for everyone's collective affections, and he acted like a great big bald, bearded baby over it.
January 25th, 2006 7:27pm
"WTF. Simon is a way cool guy and you guys just ripped him to shreds over a free hang-out where we could re-group?"
wtf? where was he ripped to shreds?
"Why, CrazyOnTap might have fallen by the way-side if Simon's site hadn't been up"
I totally agree. we all owe a vote of thanks to Simon.
"I wuv ya,"
awww, sharky. glad you found us :)
Hey Ectopia is great and we all know it was wonderful to have it when ?off went down.
For all of you now to suddenly feel guilty for harmlessly ribbing Simon is ridiculous.
He's being a great big baby and it's none of our faults.
January 25th, 2006 7:39pm
I have always thought the FogBugz forum style is a triumph of style over usability, so duplicating it precisely is not exactly a forward step. I for one like the extra features that Ectopia has and I certainly don't feel compelled to criticize it over a slight lack of visual polish.
I don't deserve any thanks, Ectopia was created when barely anyone knew about it because of the somewhat wayward behaviour of the JOS server that it remained is as much due to my indolence to do anything with it as anything else.
Communities ebb and flow all the time, if Ectopia continues in any sense it will have little to do with me, similarly here.
There are mistakes that can be avoided though.
January 25th, 2006 7:45pm
We weren't really criticising in a negative sense, merely saying that were one to use for for any length of time there were a number of areas that could do with a bit of spit and polish. (It actually looks OK at 800x600, and the main page works fine up to 1024x768, but given that most posts on there are short it became unreadable beyond that -- you'd just get one mammoth line of text after another with no real way of differentiating one from the other, and it was pretty much unusable in that state.)
However, Simon seems to have taken it as a personal attack and has concoted some sort of imaginary power struggle, when really all we were doing is making observations. I guess a combination of his flu, and the fact that dozens of people started bombarding him with suggestions all at once (in an ?off style, so probably not phrased optimally) is something of an explanation, but it's almost as if he'd never been to ?off before, didn't know what we were like, and had kind of turned into Joel.
January 25th, 2006 7:52pm
nah, part of it is just his disappointment I would guess...one day we are all there, next day not....
who runs a forum and *doesn't* want it to be filled and popular?
<g> even muppet would *really* have liked us to use his site...(and if you want to see ugly, take a look at madebymonkeys...)
it was kind of a tease. Simons a good guy though, he'll get over it in a day or two :)
While I definitely would have liked you folks using my site, I totally did not expect anyone to buy the interface there. :)
January 25th, 2006 7:59pm
"Simon seems to have taken it as a personal attack "
Of course not. If anything, Simon never takes anything morons like us say personally and occasionally teases others for taking things too personally *cough* muppet *cough*
Go work on your English, buddy. Or smoke fewer drugs.

"who runs a forum and *doesn't* want it to be filled and popular? "
My friend, guys with buddist attitude don't.
Obviously you wouldn't know...
I really don't mind if people use it or not and I didn't feel it as a personal attack but I felt it personally.
Not slights about the look and feel, given the majority of such things its neither worse nor better than most.
I felt it personally because I never wanted there to be any possible comparison, the two are entirely dissimilar and have different agendas.
When I saw the 'mouldy' link I saw it as a comparison, a pejorative one. The intention may not have been that at all but that was my impression. I can understand if not one in a thousand other than I would have that same impression.
After that the changes made afterwards just seem like more scrawls on the toilet wall. Again I might be the only person that thinks that.
January 25th, 2006 8:10pm
He called cheddar gorge mouldy, not your bleeding site.
Go take some fucking NyQuil or whatever kooky Limey equivalent and get some fucking sleep, dad, you need it.
January 25th, 2006 8:11pm
Simon, it's late and you're ill. Have a nice whisky and lemon, go to bed, take the day off tomorrow, and it'll all seem better...
(That's not meant to be patronising in any way, although it does look it even to me, and I wrote it. Seriously, if you're ill you shouldn't be up arguing the toss over something at 1am -- go to bed, guy!)
January 25th, 2006 8:13pm
"but I felt it personally."
I understand that. I'd feel bad if nobody bothered to use this place -- I tried not to get too involved.
"When I saw the 'mouldy' link I saw it as a comparison, a pejorative one."
Fair enough. It was meant in humour, however.
"After that the changes made afterwards just seem like more scrawls on the toilet wall."
I'm not sure I understand this, however. I made it a very nice link.
I'm in the non-sleeping zone now.
January 25th, 2006 8:15pm
Hmmm, as Rick said if you don't understand you don't understand but its not about people using here and _not_ using there. Or no one using there. No one was using there two days ago.
It was perceived (emphasise perceived) as onemanship.
January 25th, 2006 8:17pm
My life was empty until I saw your words here. Seriously, I thought I'd never see them again.
Thanks, Babe! ;-)
Har har har to your beautiful, sexy words!
P.S. Trying to draw out The DENMAN...
I bring the tuna, BITCHES!
Wait. Is that what I really want to say...
