Ectopia vs. Crazy On Tap
Ectopia = dealing with the heavy events of recent past.
Crazy On Tap = a fresh new beginning.
Even the coloring confirms this.

An interesting perspective. You should become some sort of mediator for the UN. :)
Christ that'll teach me for leaving for a couple of days, you guys move ... real nice.

I'm for that, but I don't know if Simon is.
I just saw that apparently Simon has the flu, and perhaps that is what's making him cranky, and perhaps once he rebounds he'll be his usual, slightly cranky but able to joke, self again. I sure hope so, otherwise that would be another sad loss for the community.
What happened PNII? The ___ of _____ and ____ kept you busy?
Welcome, glad you found the place. What a long, strage trip it's been.

nope, wasn't them :)
It's going to take me days flipping around sites to catch up. Glad I found you guys ... you would have missed me eventually :)

You know what we all need to get over this? We need one o' them song writers / flash animators to put this whole saga in an online musical, ultimate showdown style.
There's no vs, Ectopia isn't the past it just is it has no agenda other than that and that's all there ever was to it.
Perhaps I have had a loss of sense of humour about it but it seems to me there were plenty of people that were happy to use it yesterday and that some of those same people want to piss on it today. Let them.
I didn't ask them to use it yesterday and I'm certainly not pleading for them to use it now. Ectopia has nothing to do with here and Crazy on Tap has nothing to do with Ectopia other than they may, from time to time, share the same users.
Again, Ectopia was never intended as a clone of JOS. If no one ever posts there again I won't have lost anything.
So, I'll ask again. Please remove the link it will only serve to confuse.
Yeah quit embarrassing Simon. He's feeling set upon.

Oh okay. That's actually a totally reasonable request, Simon. You want it to stand on it's own for what it is, I understand, there are some things of mine I wouldn't like from here either
You just came across really bad before... I'm not sure if AHA is around, I'll go ahead and take of it now with a note so he'll know why I've done it.
Simon - my post wasn't intended to highlight a rivalry, just a contrast I'd noticed between the two.
When I saw that Joel changed the wording on his page, my first instinct was to post it to Ectopia. That's when I realized the (for me) emotional significance of each forum.
The ability to use "vs." in between them was just a happy concidence.

No its just that all the posturing of this place versus that is tedious and misleading. AHA didn't care about Ectopia he wanted a clone, that's fair enough. Ectopia was hacked out of something else and was never intended to be a clone.
Fabricating some kind of competition is just silly.
"Fabricating some kind of competition is just silly."
But so is "taking you ball and going home". Obviously both forums have the same members.. linking between them seems logical. Hence my original link to your forums (and that was before I knew there was a link back to here).
There's another thread about linking back to Joel even...

No but in the spirit of hmmm maniacal monkeys or whatever, the link couldn't just be a link it had to be a pejorative link. Just as the comment now can't help but refer to it instead of there just being space.
This is kind of the difference I was expecting that the decoration of the site itself would become the content. Yes quotes from posts generally were rebarbative and no harm in that but that kind of reflexive commenting is a different kind of feel.
?off works best when you leave it be, let the chips fall where they may. Smartass decorations will, inevitably, piss more off than they entertain. After a while chimps tea parties become tedious.
Damnit, stop hijacking my thread. We're supposed to be talking about... oh wait.
Nevermind, carry on.

"the link couldn't just be a link it had to be a pejorative link."
It's the *sidebar* so of course it couldn't just be a link. Just being a link would be wrong.
You're taking it far too seriously and more maliciously than intended. That's all there is to really say about it. I would have hoped that we could return to some level of civility and return both links on both sites. It's unfortunate.

Maybe both sites should share the same database and just have different CSS... that'd be kind of nifty.

"Maybe both sites should share the same database and just have different CSS... that'd be kind of nifty."
right, I think that would be a great idea as well. or worse case maybe some script running somewhere to mirror posts back onto both?
that way we keep the community whole and gain choice in the specific forum we use.

No because then there will be battles fought over moderation and who gets to say what gets deleted and where it gets deleted and how to handle deleting in one place but not the other if that's to be allowed and then everyone has to check both places anyway to see everything.
Fuck no.

I'd probably have to stain my fingers with the filth that is php to do that. There are more incompatibilities than just outlook here. :-)
The same reason as muppet points out goes as for why posts at one shouldn't get shuffled over to the other and vice versa.
Yeah, I agree with that.
Good to see you smiling, Simon.
I think the general style and features of the forum effects the conversations that happen in it. This was Joel's premise when he created the forums initially.
I suspect that in both form and functionality both sites will begin to diverge more and more (with some stealing of good ideas back and forth) and the types of conversations will be different. Trying to merge the content misses the point -- form and content are inseparable.

Am I supposed to be complaining about sharkfish's racism here? It seems we've all reverted to cavemen, but I haven't really been keeping track and want to do my part to keep up.

I don't think she's accused us of being white yet. Bastards, yes, but that seemed to be addressed to people of all creeds and colours...
Can we get a link to the HOME page somehow. Seems like something needed.
