99% certain house at end of our street is a meth lab
All kinds of foot and car traffic down there all day long, especially at night.
Windows are all covered night and day.
Entire lawn is dead even in the springtime.
There's 4 or 5 (6?) adults living there as well as an 18 year old girl and her 10 year old sister.
Place smells like cat piss at night and in the early morning (anhydrous ammonia?)
100% certain that police can't/won't do anything about it, and don't want the retribution when they find out we called. For all we know, one or more town cops are buyers.
***
I'm becoming especially concerned because even though they're not our immediate neighbors, they're not THAT far, and our home is not well sealed. It's log, after all.
Ever since the baby started sleeping in the upstairs bedroom on that side of the house, she wakes frequently and has trouble getting back to sleep. This could just be coincidence, but it makes me nervous.
WTF do I do besides surreptitiously burn the place down (Disclaimer: I will not be burning the place down.)
DEA doesn't give a fuck unless it's interstate, according to their site.
Town cops aren't going to search the place b/c I said "hey I think they're on meth over there."
I went down there tonight and knocked on the door b/c my daughter's cat was missing, wanted to know if they'd seen it.
Dude answered the door, heard the daughter's mom yelling at him to close the door quick. He looked right at me (or at my knees, he was pretty fucked up) and didn't even see me there. Yelled back to someone inside that nobody was there and closed the door. Then opened it again, stared at my feet, then closed it again.
I don't know if the daughter(s) are/were at home or not. I DO know that DCF has been to the house a bunch of times already b/c the original tenant (the mom's boyfriend) was convicted of child molestation and possession of child porn.
I don't know if any of the meth shit was going on then, though, nor whether DCF would recognize the signs or care about them.
Fuck fuck fuck.

I've had a meth lab next door. You need to find the name of the detective in charge of drugs, and then ask someone on the force in another city if that one can be trusted or not. About 75% of narcotics officers are on the take. Who wouldn't be? Narcotics officer is one of the most lucrative businesses in america right now.

If you have an honest narc, when you smell the cook, call him on his private number that you have because you already discussed the issue with him in person.
The key is that IF he smells the hydrochloric acid or the ammonia, then he has probable cause to investigate.
For some weird reason too most the druggies are dumb on dealing with police and will agree to a search.

And you definitely want to bring up how the baby gets sick everytime there is a cook. Even if he is dishonest, that will be enough for him to tell the chemist to move it to another lab.

Not really.
A big problem is that there's only 3 houses on this street including the probable lab, and of the remaining two, it'll be bloody obvious who the 'anonymous' tipster was.

Well I wouldn't call up and say there's a meth lab on *my* block. Try and sound all twitchy. ;)

If you get a conscientious narc he can work with that.
They've had an abused child there you said. So this means that child welfare officials are required to stop by for random checks.
You call in when you smell a cook. Narc calls child welfare. Child welfare does a "random check". During this random check, the social worker smells the cook and "calls" the narc, who shows up and has probable cause.

We only smell it very infrequently. Could be the prevailing wind direction, dunno.
I've read that there are lots of alternate recipes now that don't create the smell. Fuck if I know if that's bullshit or not.

holy shit there is no information on how to get rid of such effectively.
The most interesting thing I read while Googling this topic is tossing a skunk into their window while they are cooking and calling the cops when everyone runs out.

The only people I know who ever got rid of a neighborhood meth lab were very wealthy. (My company's CEO). When he told the story, we were all shocked. I have no doubt they "influenced" the police properly to get that taken care of.

Yep. I've found it particularly distressing. LOTS of "here's how you spot one". Almost ZERO "here's how you get rid of one."

That or place a couple of anonymous phone calls to the police stating that you've heard screaming and wifebeating going on. That should mean that the narcotics officers' on the take aren't sent along to investigate.

I skimmed some stuff and I remember reading that you should find out who the landlord is, if they are renting.
Maybe the owner just needs a reason to get rid of them, and you can provide it.

Meth labs in the US seemed to have hit a peak around 2004. The apartment complex/slums next door to my apartment complex (aka not quite a slum) haven't had the bomb squad come visit since late 2005.
I am surprised that you've got a meth lab at the end of your street as the stuff needed to make the stuff has pretty much become unavailable to non-corporations. You know corporations - the fine upstanding thingies that the US Supreme Court decided could bribe every fucking politician they wanted to. Them folks. They're the only ones able to purchase the shit needed to make meth anymore. As for you and I, well, we need to show IDs to purchase cough medicine now. But corporations don't need to. They can do anything they want to. Thanks to the criminals who wear robes.

There are tons of meth labs around. There are several I know of. Meth lab busts are going on every day in every state.
There's also a new method, the 2 liter bottle method. You toss some crap in a bottle and jiggle it while driving around in your car. It makes enough for 1 hit, then you throw the bottle containing highly toxic sludge out your car window onto the side of the road.

Anyway, the big problem with meth is the way street meth is made creates a lot of health problems like meth mouth and sores.
If you get good meth it only makes you paranoid and crazy.
Meth is sold at the corner pharmacy under the trade name Desoxyn. It is prescribed to small children for ADHD because meth is known to be safer than Ritalin, with fewer side effects.
The good illicit meth is coming in from Mexico. It's made in Baja at a number of pharmaceutical plants there and is quite pure.

Shut up CC, that is total bullshit. Meth is NOT sold at the pharmacy, what the fuck is your problem.

It's your duty to anonymously report the terrorist activities going on there. Probably making a bomb to blow up an airplane.

Thank you, Prince of Literal
Am I wrong in assuming they have electric service?
Because (I'm making it easy for you here, so try and keep up) if the meter reader were to smell the lab, and happened to call the cops, there's your out.

I called the cops when I saw evidence that the people down the street were muslims. They didn't do squat - they're still there.

I doubt it. Having muppet on the same street already provides a major disincentive.
