steve jobs responding to complaint email
Sometimes Steve Jobs personally responds to interesting questions that customers ask.
A customer writes in complaining that there is a diagnostic fee to evaluate whether a Mac that was dropped in the bathtub can be repaired:
"Why do I have to pay Apple to see if my water-damaged MacBook Pro can be fixed?"
This customer received an email response direct from Steve Jobs: "Look, this is what happens when your MacBook Pro sustains water damage. They are pro machines and they don’t like water. It sounds to me like you’re just looking for someone to get mad at other than yourself. - Steve Jobs"

It does cost Apple money for a technician to open up his MacBook to see how damaged it is. Does the writer really think that should be free?

It ought to be free if it was Apple's fault it broke. It ought not to be free if you dropped it in the bath.

I have gone to small computer shops and they will absolutely charge you to look at the machine. I am not surprised Apple is charging to look at it.
Well of course they should charge. The email is interesting because:
1. Some random customer got a letter from Steve Jobs.
2. Jobs told him to stop being an irresponsible dweeb.
Gosh I am surprised I need to explain this.

Yes, but there are some people on the Internet defending the irresponsible dweeb and calling Jobs an asshole for his response.

Are there? Didn't find those. That's funny.
Free software, free health care. Now free computer diagnosis no matter what happens. Oops! I set fire to my computer with a blow torch! They better cover it! It's under warranty!

Steve Jobs is kind of a cock, but those sort of answers (it's your own fault, dummy) need to be more common, when justified.

If you were on the cover of Time magazine and were worth several billion dollars and having a bad day, wouldn't you pick a couple of obviously stupid support emails out of the queue to go vent on?
Just because you can.

Oh I don't think he's a cock because of those responses. He's just a narcissistic, dishonest cock all around.
