Har har har to your ring tapping! Silly Me <Mustang> A high school that I attended for 2 months was the basis for the film "Remember the Titans" with Denzel Washington.
My Undergraduate degree was the basis for "October Sky" with Jake Gyllenhaal. My Graduate degree is where CNN Crossfire is broadcast. The movie Sing was based on Brooklyn high schools in general, and here's a factoid Philo may like - my sister went to high school with Marissa Tomei.
Also, that guy who shot up the white house with a submachine gun during the Clinton Administration... he went to my high school as well.
It's a mixed bag. Glengarry Glen Ross was filmed in my neighborhood - the train station in the background is the one I used every day for years. Sarah Jessica Parker just got through filming a movie on my college campus, Spike Lee filmed a bunch of stuff in and around where I grew up too. Oh, Brighton Beach Memoirs was based on more or less where I grew up too. And Seabiscuit and...
Dr Who is filmed in Cardiff (where I went to University) and a lot of British telly uses (esp. The Bill) locations in Bermondsey & Rotherhithe where I used to live.
The film "Green Street" is about West Ham soccer violence. I haven't seen it so I don't know the locations used - but Green Street itself runs from Forest Gate (where I was born) to the Barking Road. On the corner of that junction is the "Boleyn" pub where both my grandfathers drank. Next to the pub is an old cinema (now a mosque I believe) and then a row of shops (c.1970) including the pie shop where my grandmother worked. The previous shops on the site included the greengrocers where my Dad grew up. |
